About us

Founded in 2015, Formalist Gallery is dedicated to offering a meticulously curated collection of twentieth-century design classics, with an emphasis on the late 1920s through the 1950s. We take pride in presenting hand-selected pieces that epitomize rarity, elegance, and craftsmanship, celebrating the legacy of renowned international creators such as Jindřich Halabala, Paavo Tynell, Alvar Aalto, Ib Kofod-Larsen, Hans Bergström, Madsen & Schubell, Otto Schulz, Marcel Breuer, Nordiska Kompaniet, Josef Frank, and Ilmari Lappalainen, to name a few. In addition to these celebrated names, the gallery also features exceptional works by other anonymous, talented cabinetmakers of the era, with each piece distinguished by its elegant shaping and impeccable craftsmanship.

Whether you aim to enhance your space with a statement piece or curate a complete collection of design masterpieces, the gallery offers a diverse array of works that cater to both discerning collectors and design enthusiasts, each work reflecting the artistry and meticulous attention to detail that defined that era.

Reflecting the gallery’s focus on historic heritage pieces, our aim is to adhere to the original creator’s intent, upholding historical significance, and maintaining natural patina while meeting client expectations. Authenticity and quality are paramount; therefore, each piece undergoes meticulous structural and condition inspections to determine the necessary restoration and care. Some works are expertly restored by our team, while others remain unaltered, preserving their original beauty and elegance.

The gallery’s website is updated regularly. Our dedicated team is here to assist with any questions about available works, shipping, payments, or other inquiries.
